Official Description
Great Northern Viking Festival is an immersive Viking Age–inspired festival held in southern Minnesota. The event blends live entertainment, historical demonstrations, and interactive education in an atmosphere-forward setting designed to feel lived-in rather than staged.
The festival features Viking combat demonstrations, forging and craft demos, music, storytelling, hands-on activities, and a curated vendor marketplace with a strong focus on Viking garb, armor, jewelry, and handmade goods. Educational programming and demonstrations are intentionally structured to be accessible to the public while remaining grounded and clearly separated from entertainment elements.
The event welcomes reenactors, artisans, educators, and performers who value presentation, immersion, and thoughtful engagement with the Viking Age. Camping and an optional Saturday evening 21+ event, A Night in Valhalla, are also part of the weekend experience.
The Great Northern Viking Festival emphasizes quality over scale and prioritizes atmosphere, learning through demonstration, and a strong visual environment across the festival grounds.
