Renesansni festival

2026 Dates: August 20 - 23

First Weekend!

Official Description

At the end of August, when torches are lit on the remains of the Koprivnica ramparts and the town is filled with knights, craftsmen, court jesters, and traveling merchants, Koprivnica becomes a true Renaissance stage for a few days.

The Renaissance Festival is not just an event to be observed; it is a genuine experience to immerse oneself in. It’s a return to a time when horse hooves echoed through the streets, the smell of food prepared over open fires filled the air, and life unfolded along the city walls.

This historical and tourist spectacle reconstructs the period when Koprivnica became a free royal city in 1356, with a special emphasis on the late 15th and 16th centuries, from which the Renaissance ramparts where the program takes place originate. During the four festival days, more than 1,300 costumed participants from Croatia and numerous European countries bring the spirit of the late Middle Ages to life through knightly battles and tournaments, fencing, medieval music, entertainers, alchemists, merchants, and a large fair of old crafts.

The uniqueness of the Renaissance Festival lies precisely in its authenticity. Plastic has been completely removed from the event, so food and drinks are served exclusively in wooden and ceramic vessels, while dishes are prepared according to medieval recipes, often with the addition of nettle—the plant to which Koprivnica owes its name. Visitors can thus taste mead, nettle beer, and numerous traditional dishes, becoming part of a vivid historical story in the process.

Today, the Renaissance Festival is one of the most famous and most awarded events in Croatia, but its greatest value remains the feeling that the past isn't just being shown here—for a few days, it is truly being lived again.
